Crude Energy Beverages Inc., a North American beverage company that positions itself as the brand for the working class, will participate in the ECRM Vitamin, Weight Management & Sports Nutrition Session from September 14-17 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The company will introduce its growing portfolio of energy drinks, flavored teas, and Crude Brew Coffee to retailers as it expands its U.S. market presence.
Founded by individuals with roots in the oil and gas industry, Crude Energy specifically caters to workers in sectors such as oil and gas, construction, trucking, farming, welding, mechanics, and other skilled trades. The brand's origins trace back to 2012 with Rig Pig Apparel, a clothing and personal protective equipment line for oil and gas workers. The success of that venture inspired the creation of beverages for the same community. Formulations for the beverages began in 2019, but the initial market entry was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the setback, the founders continued to develop the business, eventually adding Crude Brew Coffee and other drinks before resuming expansion plans.
The product lineup features bold energy drink flavors like Fossil Fuel, Heavy Crude, and Overtime Blues, alongside flavored teas and Crude Brew Coffee. The coffee is made from Honduran beans sourced from a cooperative of 72 farmers and is available in Dark Roast, Medium Roast, and a special Black Gold blend. According to Cory Yeik, president of Crude Energy, the brand is built for those who put in long shifts and get their hands dirty. “These are our people. We understand the work, we understand the lifestyle, and we wanted to build a beverage brand that actually speaks to them,” Yeik said.
CEO Kimberley Johnson echoes this sentiment, noting that the working class represents a significant portion of the population, yet few beverage brands cater specifically to them. “Whether you're on a rig, behind the wheel of a truck, working a construction site or putting in hours on a farm, we want you to look at a can of Crude and know exactly who it's for,” Johnson said. The brand's tagline, “What Fuels You?” encapsulates its message.
At the ECRM event, Crude Energy will engage in scheduled meetings with buyers from major health, specialty, food, drug, and mass retail channels, aiming to secure shelf space in stores across the country. This participation is a strategic move to increase brand visibility and accessibility for its target demographic. By aligning with a retail event that focuses on wellness and sports nutrition, Crude Energy is positioning its products as not just energy drinks but as beverages that support the physical demands of hard labor.
The implications of this expansion are significant for the beverage industry, which has seen a surge in functional drinks targeting various lifestyles. Crude Energy's focus on the working class fills a niche that is often overlooked in favor of athletic or lifestyle-oriented brands. As the company works to broaden its distribution, it could challenge established players by offering a unique value proposition rooted in authenticity and shared experience with its consumers. For retailers, adding a brand like Crude Energy may attract a loyal customer base that feels underserved by current offerings.
