tZERO Secures CFTC Approval for Derivatives Clearing, Expanding Texas-Accessible Market Infrastructure

tZERO Group, Inc., the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) company powering the tokenized economy, announced that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has approved the registration of its wholly owned subsidiary, tZERO DCO, LLC, as a derivatives clearing organization (DCO). The approval, reported by NEWMEDIAWIRE, marks a significant expansion of tZERO's regulated infrastructure, which now spans both securities and derivatives. The company's registration as a derivatives contract market (DCM) is expected to follow shortly.

For institutional clients, this approval creates a path to develop derivative offerings using tZERO's trading and clearing infrastructure, subject to product approvals and regulatory requirements. The new capabilities advance tZERO's multi-asset model, designed to help institutions offer customers access to a range of financial products through modular integrations and white label solutions. This matters for Texas businesses because tZERO's platform is location-agnostic, meaning Texas-based institutions can leverage the infrastructure to build and offer derivative products, potentially increasing market participation and liquidity in the state's financial sector.

"This is a major expansion of what tZERO can build with institutions," said Alan Konevsky, Chief Executive Officer of tZERO. "We have spent years assembling regulated infrastructure for tokenized securities and other financial assets. With a clearinghouse registration, and forthcoming exchange registration for derivatives, we can address an additional market and support a much broader set of client ambitions." The combination distinguishes tZERO within the tokenization market, as its regulated capabilities span multiple stages of the market lifecycle, from securities into derivatives.

The DCO approval also positions tZERO to support institutions developing offerings across traditional and tokenized securities, derivatives, and other eligible products. Vanessa Savino, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer of tZERO, called it "a pinnacle moment in our licensing journey," adding that the company will grow the new capability iteratively and responsibly. Al Swimmer, Chief Strategic Relationships Officer, noted that the registrations allow tZERO to work with partners earlier in the process of bringing derivatives products to market.

tZERO announced its applications for both registrations in September 2025. A DCO is a CFTC-regulated clearinghouse that provides clearing and settlement services for derivatives transactions and manages counterparty credit risk. The implications for Texas are notable. As a state with a growing financial services and technology sector, Texas institutions can now access a regulated clearinghouse for derivatives through tZERO's IaaS model. This could spur innovation in event contracts, tokenized derivatives, and other crypto products, subject to regulatory approvals. By providing full-stack turnkey capabilities with horizontal interoperability, tZERO enables Texas businesses to offer multi-asset solutions without building their own infrastructure, potentially reducing costs and accelerating time to market. This development underscores Texas's role as a hub for financial innovation and could attract more institutions to the state's ecosystem.
