Austin Law Firm Secures $7.5 Million Settlement in Delivery Crash Case, Highlighting Evidence Gaps

AUSTIN — An Austin personal injury law firm, Joe Lopez Law, P.C., through its El Joe Me Ayudó | Personal Injury Network brand, in conjunction with the Falcon Law Group PLLC, has secured a $7.5 million settlement on behalf of a client seriously injured in a May 2025 highway collision involving a vehicle operated by one of the nation's largest delivery companies. The case, which concluded after more than a year of litigation, highlights the challenges injured motorists face when pursuing claims against large corporations that control critical electronic evidence.

The crash was caused by a distracted delivery driver who missed a highway turn and abruptly braked, leading to a serious collision. For more than a year, the delivery company and its insurer maintained that Lopez's client was responsible for the crash. Lopez and Falcon Law conducted a thorough investigation, collecting electronic evidence and deposing key witnesses to challenge the company's stance.

A pivotal moment came during the investigating police officer's deposition. Falcon Law's Michael Darling showed the officer video footage and other evidence the delivery company had not provided during the original crash investigation. After reviewing the previously unavailable evidence, the officer changed his opinion regarding responsibility for the collision.

"What makes this case particularly troubling is that the company had footage that could have helped explain what happened from the very beginning," said Joe Lopez, founder of Joe Lopez Law. "Instead, our client spent more than a year being blamed for a crash. When we finally put that evidence in front of the investigating officer, even he changed his opinion about who was responsible."

The case highlights the importance of independently investigating commercial vehicle accidents, particularly when large corporations possess electronic evidence that may not be available to injured motorists or investigating authorities. Commercial delivery vehicles can generate extensive electronic information, including onboard camera footage, vehicle tracking data, driver activity records and other information that may help establish how a collision occurred.

"When you're going up against a billion-dollar company, you cannot simply accept its version of events," Lopez said. "You have to dig into the evidence, question the witnesses and be prepared to challenge the narrative. That's what we did, and ultimately we secured a $7.5 million settlement for our client."

This settlement conclusively resolves the client's injury claims from the collision. For Texas businesses, the outcome signals that even the largest delivery companies can be held accountable when evidence is withheld, and it reinforces the value of legal representation that can match corporate resources in discovery. The case also serves as a reminder to commercial fleet operators that maintaining and disclosing electronic data is not only a legal obligation but a factor that can determine liability and settlement outcomes.
