Hong Kong-based financial services and property group TROOPS, Inc. (Nasdaq: TROO) is committing US$12 million to establish a new business unit focused on artificial intelligence infrastructure in Southeast Asia, according to a company announcement. The venture, which seeks a future partnership with Bfarms365 LLC, a Texas company, will offer services including GPU-as-a-Service, AI inference, edge computing, decentralized compute, and cloud orchestration. The new unit is evaluating sites, partnerships, and assets across Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with an initial US$6 million allocation expected by the end of 2026. This development matters because it signals a significant cross-border collaboration that could bring economic benefits to Texas while positioning the state as a key player in the global AI infrastructure race.
Southeast Asia has emerged as a hotbed for AI investment, attracting over US$55 billion in the last year alone. Data center capacity in Malaysia's Johor state doubled over the same period, and telecom operators like Singtel, SK Telecom, and Reliance Jio are making major moves. TROOPS aims to capitalize on this growth by leveraging its existing expertise in fintech and machine learning. The company already uses machine learning in underwriting and servicing on rented infrastructure. By owning capacity in the region, TROOPS expects to expand what it can build and align itself with operators, banks, and sovereign funds that are investing heavily in AI.
The partnership with Bfarms365 LLC, a Texas-based company, is particularly noteworthy. While the exact nature of the collaboration is still being finalized, it represents an opportunity for Texas to deepen its ties with Asian markets and potentially attract further investment. Texas has been actively courting technology and AI businesses, and this alliance could enhance the state's reputation as a hub for innovation. The news was originally distributed via NEWMEDIAWIRE, a platform for corporate announcements.
TROOPS' core business is anchored in property and small business cash flows in Hong Kong through two licensed money lenders, commercial property rental income, and an insurance consultancy and online financial technology marketplace. Group revenue rose 70% to US$17.1 million in the year to December 31, 2025. The company also holds a 19.9% stake in HK Golden, Inc., operator of one of Hong Kong's largest online forums. This new AI venture complements TROOPS' existing focus on fintech and infrastructure. "Southeast Asia has become the place where Asia's compute is actually being built, and the capital going in is no longer only American," said Damian Thurnheer, President and CEO of TROOPS. "Moving into this layer is a natural extension of our business, which has pioneered disruptive technologies including fintech."
Tommy Wing Ling Lui, CTO of TROOPS, added, "This new venture provides strong unity with our existing business interests. We already run machine learning inside underwriting and servicing, on infrastructure we rent. Owning capacity in the region changes what we can build, and it puts us on the right side of a market where operators, banks, and sovereign funds are all moving at once." The implications for Texas are multifaceted. If the partnership with Bfarms365 LLC materializes, it could lead to increased trade, technology transfer, and job creation in the state's burgeoning tech sector. Moreover, it highlights how Texas companies are increasingly integrated into global supply chains for critical technologies like AI. As the AI infrastructure market continues to expand, Texas is well-positioned to benefit from cross-border collaborations that drive innovation and economic growth. This move by TROOPS underscores the growing importance of AI infrastructure as a foundational layer for the digital economy, and Texas' role in that ecosystem is set to grow.
