Kaufman Real Estate & Consulting Launches LandBriefing to Rank U.S. Land Opportunities

Kaufman Real Estate & Consulting, the advisory arm of Kaufman & Company, has launched LandBriefing, a new research platform designed to help developers, investors, and operators identify land opportunities across the United States before they become mainstream. The platform, available at www.landbriefing.com, provides a systematic approach to evaluating land markets, which is particularly relevant for Texas businesses and investors looking to expand or diversify their portfolios.

LandBriefing tracks 14 U.S. metros using the Kaufman Opportunity Score, a proprietary 0 to 100 framework that weighs four key factors: price momentum since 2021 (30%), employer and catalyst strength (25%), affordability and undervaluation relative to income and rent (25%), and supply tightness measured by permit and inventory pressure (20%). Markets are categorized into three tiers—Buy Window, Selective/Steady, and Caution/Wait—enabling users to quickly assess where conditions favor a purchase and where risks outweigh potential rewards.

Each market also receives a confidence rating, which reflects the reliability of the underlying data, separate from the opportunity score. Users can adjust the weighting sliders on the platform to align with their own investment strategies, and the scores, charts, and notes recalculate in real time, offering a dynamic tool for decision-making.

Daniel Kaufman, founder of Kaufman & Company and head of Kaufman Real Estate & Consulting, explained the motivation behind the platform: “LandBriefing came out of a simple problem. I wanted a working framework for where to be looking for land right now, not another static report that’s out of date by the time it lands in your inbox. This is the same judgment we use to underwrite our own capital, put in front of the people doing this work every day.”

The platform launches with a public data research snapshot that is manually refreshed, market pages featuring illustrative sample parcels and live search links to sites like Crexi, LandWatch, LoopNet, and Zillow, and a national indicators section drawing on sources including Freddie Mac, Case Shiller, and the U.S. Census Bureau. A private dashboard is available for a select group of clients and partners, offering live watchlist scores and notes.

Looking ahead, Kaufman Real Estate & Consulting plans to enhance LandBriefing by moving from manual research snapshots to connected live data feeds, adding paid listings data for real-time parcel information on market pages, and building automated score alerts for when a market crosses into Buy Window territory or when a new catalyst shifts a metro’s ranking.

The platform is built by the same team behind Kaufman Real Estate & Consulting’s advisory practice, which draws on more than 25 years of principal-side real estate experience across residential communities, commercial hospitality, build-to-rent, workforce housing, modular construction, and data center infrastructure, with more than $2 billion in project value. This new tool provides a data-driven foundation for identifying emerging land opportunities, which is especially valuable in a dynamic state like Texas, where growth and development are constantly reshaping the landscape.
