Hudson's 20-Year Duty-Free Deal at Seattle-Tacoma Airport to Elevate Travel Retail and Local Business Opportunities

Avolta AG (SIX: AVOL), through its Hudson brand and in collaboration with local small businesses, has been awarded a 20-year duty-free contract at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The agreement encompasses over 2,800 square meters of new travel retail space across three concourses: A, N, and S. This expansion strengthens Avolta's existing presence at SEA, where it already operates in both travel retail and food & beverage.

The new duty-free stores will reflect Avolta's strategy of creating location-specific retail experiences, drawing inspiration from Seattle and Washington State. Travelers can expect an international duty-free selection alongside locally sourced foods and gifts, Washington State spirits, dedicated tasting experiences, and an exclusive 'Exploring Seattle' retail range designed specifically for SEA. The offering will also feature live performances by Seattle artists, local product tastings, and installations inspired by the city's iconic glass artist, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the region's sights, sounds, and flavors before departing.

"This new duty-free offer, coupled with Hudson's emphasis on immersive experiences and digital engagement, will transform the travel experience at SEA," said Steve Johnson, President & CEO, North America, Avolta. "We are proud and excited to grow our long-time partnership with the Port of Seattle to help usher in the next phase of SEA's evolution and make the journey as exciting as the destination for the millions of travelers from around the world who visit the airport every year."

Port of Seattle Commissioner Sam Cho highlighted the broader impact: "Duty-free shops are a hallmark of major international airports, and this expansion enables SEA to meet growing demand through innovative use of space and technology that elevates the overall traveler experience. This contract also builds in meaningful opportunities for women, minority, and small-owned businesses to continue thriving at SEA, reinforcing our long-standing commitment to supporting and uplifting local entrepreneurs."

The 20-year contract underscores a significant economic commitment to the Seattle region, promising job creation and support for local businesses. By integrating local products and experiences, Hudson aims to create a sense of place that benefits both travelers and the community. The partnership with small businesses, particularly those owned by women and minorities, aligns with broader efforts to foster inclusive economic growth. As air travel continues to rebound, this investment positions SEA as a forward-thinking hub that prioritizes both traveler satisfaction and local prosperity.

For Texas, this development serves as a case study in how airports can leverage long-term retail contracts to drive economic impact. Texas airports like DFW International and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental are also major international gateways, and similar strategies could enhance their offerings while supporting local entrepreneurs. The emphasis on immersive, locally inspired retail experiences could influence how Texas airports approach concessions, potentially leading to more opportunities for Texas-based businesses and artisans. Moreover, Avolta's model of partnering with small businesses could be replicated in Texas, contributing to the state's dynamic economy.
