The Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) has announced its 2026 scholarship recipients, setting a record for the largest number of scholars awarded in a single year. Since the program's launch in 2022, HPRA has awarded 20 students with $50,000 in scholarships. This year's class includes six students from universities across the country, with Isabelle Flores of The University of Texas at Austin representing the Lone Star State. The announcement, made via NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE, underscores the organization's commitment to fostering diversity in the public relations and communications fields.
The 2026 recipients are Camila Garcia Chirino (University of Florida), Isabelle Flores (The University of Texas at Austin), Luis David Latozefsky (Stetson University), Melanie Herrera (Florida International University), Nasaiah Algarin (American University), and Xavier Ramirez (University of Southern California). This year also marks a milestone with HPRA's first high school senior recipient, extending support to talent earlier in their academic journey. The expansion reflects HPRA's dedication to creating greater access to opportunity and growing the program's impact nationwide.
Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and commitment to communications. Their interests span public relations, strategic communications, public affairs, entertainment and media, civic engagement, and social impact. Beyond financial support, scholars gain access to HPRA's national network through mentorship, professional development, networking opportunities, and exposure to industry leaders.
"The growth of this program is something our leadership is deeply proud of because it reflects what is possible when our industry invests intentionally in the next generation," said HPRA National President Sonia V. Diaz. "With the support of partners like Aflac and H+M Communications, as well as individual donors, we have been able to expand our reach, open more doors, increase mentorship opportunities, and continue building a program that can make a meaningful impact in communities across the country."
Among the recipients, Melanie Herrera of Florida International University will receive the Roshana Gossoff Memorial Scholarship, a $1,500 award honoring a former HPRA Miami officer. In addition to the scholarship, students will receive free access to HPRA National webinars and events, a mentorship and shadowing opportunity with a board member, and recognition at HPRA's annual ¡BRAVO! Awards gala on Nov. 19, 2026, at the LA River Center and Gardens in Los Angeles.
The program's 2026 theme, "Legacy in Motion," honors HPRA's history and the leaders shaping each generation of communicators. For Texas, the inclusion of Isabelle Flores highlights the state's growing role in producing diverse communications talent. As HPRA continues to strengthen the pipeline of diverse talent entering the profession, the impact will be felt across industries that rely on effective storytelling and strategic communication. This investment in education and professional development not only benefits individual students but also enriches the communications landscape, ensuring that diverse perspectives are represented in the stories that shape our world.
