hep global, a specialist in solar project development with over 15 years of experience across Europe, Japan, and North America, has completed the development phase for its largest solar project in Germany to date. The 35.7 MWp “Buckelacker” solar park in Eppingen, near the company’s headquarters in Guglingen, is now entering construction. The project spans approximately 30 hectares and is expected to generate about 38 million kilowatt-hours of solar power annually, enough to supply the theoretical annual energy needs of roughly 10,800 households with renewable energy.
The electricity will be fed into the regional power grid via a newly constructed substation at Hohenstein. A key feature of the project is an integrated green energy storage system with a capacity of 20.3 MWh and an output of 10 MW. This storage system temporarily stores solar power and feeds it into the grid during periods of higher electricity prices, thereby increasing the economic benefits of the generated electricity. The combination of solar generation and battery storage demonstrates how renewable projects can be optimized for both environmental and economic returns.
Benjamin Brasch, Manager of Project Development for South-West Germany at hep global, emphasized the significance of the project: “This project is something special for us. It combines the development of a local solar project with the experience we have gained in various markets around the world. The fact that we have developed our largest German solar project to date in the immediate vicinity of our headquarters also underscores our long-term commitment to the region.” The project highlights hep global’s strategy of bringing international expertise to its home market while strengthening local energy infrastructure.
Construction work, now beginning, will be coordinated by ZaberSolar GmbH, with completion expected in the first half of 2027. The Buckelacker solar park represents a milestone for hep global, which employs around 120 people worldwide through subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the USA, Canada, and Japan. This development matters because it signals the growing scale and sophistication of solar projects in Europe, particularly in Germany, where renewable energy is a central pillar of the energy transition. The inclusion of battery storage enhances grid stability and allows for better economic utilization of solar power, a model that could be replicated in other markets, including Texas, where solar capacity is rapidly expanding. As Texas continues to lead the U.S. in renewable energy deployment, innovations like those demonstrated by hep global offer valuable lessons for integrating storage and maximizing the value of solar assets. The project also underscores the role of experienced international developers in driving local economic and environmental benefits, potentially spurring further investment and job creation in the renewable sector.
