Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram II to Keynote 2026 Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit

The 2026 Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit will feature Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram II as its lunch presenter on Oct. 22, 2026, at the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center in Carlsbad, N.M. The event, now in its 14th year, is hosted by Carlsbad Mayor Richard Lopez and other community leaders under the theme "From the Basin to the Nation: Local Energy, National Impact."

Ingram, currently an on-air personality for Fox Sports, is best known for his college football career at the University of Alabama, where he became the first Crimson Tide player to win the Heisman Trophy in 2009. He later played in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans. His participation brings a high-profile platform to an event focused on the energy industry's role in the Permian Basin and beyond.

The summit's significance lies in its timing and location. The Permian Basin is one of the most productive energy regions in the United States, and decisions made there have far-reaching consequences for national energy policy, economic stability, and innovation. As Mayor Lopez stated, "It all starts here. When it comes to the energy industry, what happens in the Permian Basin resonates across the entire nation." This underscores the summit's goal of fostering understanding and support for the area's energy impact.

Additional speakers will address critical issues. Matt Warren, Oil and Gas Program Lead for the Bureau of Land Management, will discuss federal energy policy. Former State Cabinet Secretary Tom Clifford will examine the financial impact of the energy industry on the state. Experts will also cover water challenges and the industry's unique contributions to the nation. These topics are particularly relevant as Texas continues to balance energy production with environmental and economic considerations.

The event is supported by major sponsors, with Chevron as title sponsor, ExxonMobil as presenting sponsor, and Permian Resources as Diamond sponsor. The Carlsbad Community Foundation serves as fiscal sponsor. Thanks to this sponsorship, the summit is free to attend, though registration through the summit's web page is requested. Lunch will be served, and area nonprofits and businesses will have booths in the atrium. For more information, visit www.carlsbadenergysummit.com.

For Texas businesses and communities, the summit represents a vital forum for networking, education, and collaboration. The energy sector is a cornerstone of the Texas economy, providing jobs, revenue, and innovation. By bringing together industry experts, policymakers, and community leaders, the Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit helps shape the dialogue around energy production and its national implications. As the Permian Basin continues to drive U.S. energy independence, events like this ensure that stakeholders are informed and engaged, ultimately benefiting the broader economy and society.
