Frontieras North America and Western Fuels Partner to Develop Wyoming Coal Conversion Facility

Frontieras North America, a Houston-based energy technology company, and Western Fuels have announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop a mine-mouth FASForm™ processing facility at the Dry Fork Mine near Gillette, Wyoming. The agreement outlines long-term plans for a facility site, coal feedstock supply initially up to approximately 2.7 million tons annually and expanding to 5.4 million tons at full build-out, Western Fuels' purchase of ultra-low-sulfur diesel produced at the facility, and the potential use of Western Fuels Association transportation capabilities to move FASForm™ product streams.

The proposed facility would advance Frontieras North America's strategy to scale its patented FASForm™ Solid Carbon Fractionation technology across Wyoming and the West through mine-mouth facilities and its FASGEN™ co-location platform for coal-fired power plants. FASForm™ uses a continuous, closed-loop process to convert coal into products including FASCarbon™, ultra-low-sulfur diesel, and naphtha. Under the MOU, FASCarbon™ produced at the proposed Wyoming facility could be transported to Western Fuels Association member utilities under separate commercial terms or sold into international markets.

This collaboration is significant for the energy industry as it aims to redefine coal utilization by producing cleaner fuels and industrial chemicals through a zero-waste process. The technology could provide a path forward for coal-rich regions like Wyoming to diversify their energy portfolios while reducing environmental impact. For Texas, where Frontieras is headquartered, this development highlights the state's role in fostering energy innovation that reaches beyond its borders.

The announcement comes as part of Frontieras North America's broader plans, including constructing its first commercial-scale facility in Mason County, West Virginia. The company holds an international patent portfolio spanning five continents, positioning it as a key player in the transition to cleaner energy solutions.

This partnership could have wide-reaching implications for the coal industry, offering a potential model for integrating advanced conversion technologies at existing mine sites. By enabling the production of ultra-low-sulfur diesel and other valuable products, the project may help stabilize coal communities and create new economic opportunities. For readers, this news underscores the ongoing evolution of energy technologies and the importance of investment in sustainable practices.
