Frontieras North America is advancing construction of its first commercial-scale FASForm facility in Mason County, West Virginia, as growing electricity demand places increasing pressure on regional power markets. The company highlighted the latest capacity auction from PJM, which coordinates the power market across 13 states and Washington, D.C., where prices reached the federally approved cap of $325 per MW-day and capacity fell 6,831 MW short of PJM reliability requirement. Frontieras also noted that PJM independent market monitor attributed $6.3 billion of the auction $16.4 billion cost to data center demand.
The FASForm process is designed to fractionate American coal into products including hydrogen, diesel, jet fuel, naphtha and fertilizer without burning the coal itself. This innovative approach aims to provide a cleaner alternative to traditional coal usage while meeting the energy needs of a growing economy. The planned $850 million Mason County facility is under construction and backed by a $150 million institutional commitment from GEM, underscoring confidence in the technology and its market potential.
The urgency of this project is underscored by the recent PJM capacity auction results. With prices hitting the cap and capacity shortfalls, the region faces significant challenges in ensuring reliable electricity supply. The surge in data center demand has been a major driver, adding billions in costs. Frontieras sees its technology as part of the solution, offering a way to produce clean fuels and hydrogen from domestic coal, which could alleviate some of the strain on the power grid.
Frontieras inaugural Reg A+ offering previously reached its $25.7 million ceiling and attracted more than 10,000 shareholders. The company has reserved the Nasdaq ticker “FASF” for its planned public listing. Its reopened Reg A+ investment opportunity is scheduled to close Aug. 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. The economic impact of this facility extends beyond energy. By creating jobs in Mason County and contributing to the local tax base, it supports regional development. Moreover, the production of hydrogen and other fuels could position Texas as a leader in the transition to cleaner energy, aligning with broader state and national goals. As electricity demand continues to rise, driven by data centers and other industries, projects like FASForm are critical to maintaining grid reliability and affordability.
