Former State Representative Jarvis Johnson Named Texas State Co-Chair for U.S. Term Limits

Jarvis Johnson, a former Texas State Representative with over three decades of public service, has been named Texas State Co-Chair for U.S. Term Limits, an organization dedicated to enacting term limits for Congress. The announcement was made on July 24, 2026, positioning Johnson as a key advocate for one of the nation's most popular government reforms.

Johnson, who served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2016 to January 2025, representing District 139, brings extensive legislative experience and community leadership to the role. During his tenure, he championed legislation on public education, mental health, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity, helping secure over $2.1 billion in investments for flood control, infrastructure, historically Black colleges and universities, and neighborhood revitalization. Prior to his legislative service, he was one of the youngest individuals elected to the Houston City Council, representing District B.

As Texas State Co-Chair, Johnson will work to build support for congressional term limits, which he argues are essential to restoring accountability and citizen leadership in Washington. 'Americans are frustrated with a Congress that has become increasingly disconnected from the people it serves,' Johnson stated. 'Term limits will help ensure that elected officials remain focused on serving the people rather than serving themselves.'

U.S. Term Limits President Philip Blumel expressed confidence in Johnson's leadership, noting his track record of fighting for stronger communities and greater accountability. 'Jarvis has spent his career fighting for stronger communities, greater accountability, and better government,' Blumel said. 'His extensive experience in public service and his deep commitment to empowering citizens make him an outstanding advocate for congressional term limits.'

Johnson's appointment underscores Texas's role as a leader in promoting limited government and constitutional principles. As a successful business owner and lifelong Houstonian, he emphasizes the importance of citizen legislators and fresh ideas in the nation's capital. 'Our Founding Fathers never intended public office to become a lifetime career,' Johnson added. 'When elected officials remain in office for decades, Washington becomes more focused on preserving political power than solving the problems facing hardworking Americans.'
