Champ Tours Launches Baseball-Themed Grand Slam Heritage Tour for Senior Travelers

Champ Tours, a California-based group travel company founded by Dan Champ, is launching a new baseball-themed travel experience for members of the Sun City Roseville Travel Club. The Grand Slam Heritage Tour, scheduled for May 13–19, 2027, will take participants through New York City, Cooperstown, and Boston, combining Major League Baseball games, historic ballpark tours, and visits to cultural destinations. The announcement signals another expansion of Champ Tours' offerings for active senior travelers and underscores the economic potential of niche group travel.

The seven-day itinerary begins in New York City with guided sightseeing and a New York Yankees game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium. The group then travels to Cooperstown, New York, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, where travelers can explore exhibits documenting the players, teams, and moments that have shaped professional baseball. An overnight stay at the historic Otesaga Resort Hotel is included. The tour continues to Boston for a Boston Red Sox game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Fenway Park, the oldest active Major League Baseball ballpark, along with a behind-the-scenes stadium tour, a visit to Quincy Market, and a Boston Duck Tour. Upon returning to New York City, participants will take an official behind-the-scenes tour of Yankee Stadium, including Monument Park. Optional evening activities include a Broadway performance or a New York Mets game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field.

The tour builds on an existing relationship between Champ Tours and the Sun City Roseville Travel Club. Champ's involvement in senior group travel grew after his father, Art, suggested adapting the company's Broadway experiences for older adults. That idea led to a Broadway Experience for 23 travelers from the club, including three participants who were 86. "One of the things I've learned from organizing group travel is that people have very different interests, regardless of their age," Champ explained. "Some travelers love theater, others enjoy history, and some have followed baseball for most of their lives."

Champ has spent more than two decades coordinating educational and cultural group travel throughout the United States and internationally. He founded Champ Tours in 2024 to continue developing travel experiences for groups with different interests and needs. "Putting together a trip like this involves much more than securing baseball tickets," Champ said. "We have to consider transportation between cities, hotel locations, the timing of games and tours, and how much activity makes sense in a single day."

The Grand Slam Heritage Tour includes round-trip air transportation, deluxe motorcoach transfers, hotel accommodations, scheduled sightseeing activities, baseball experiences, and meals as outlined in the itinerary. Pricing begins at $4,599 per person for double occupancy and $4,999 per person for single occupancy, with a $300 non-refundable deposit required by December 1, 2026. The remaining balance may be paid through monthly installments, with final payment due March 14, 2027. Travelers can find more information at www.champtours.net.

The launch matters because it illustrates how specialized travel products can tap into the growing demographic of active seniors while supporting tourism economies in historic cities. For the travel industry, themed itineraries that combine sports, culture, and history offer a way to differentiate offerings and build repeat relationships with organized groups. For Texas businesses and communities, the model demonstrates the economic impact of group travel—from hospitality and transportation to attractions and local retail—and highlights opportunities to develop similar heritage-based experiences that draw visitors and spending to the state.
